New Brighton School District in cooperation with Western Pennsylvania Psych Care is proud to offer counseling services through the Positive Steps Wellness Center. Counseling services are available in the elementary, middle and high school buildings. The services include:
- Individual therapy
- Family therapy
- Consultation with teacher/parents to address behavior problems
- Group therapy
A student can be referred by a teacher, principal, school counselor and/or a parent. Prior to the start of services, a family member will complete an intake packet with a therapist.
For children 13 years old and younger, no therapy will be conducted without written parental/guardian permission.
Services are provided during the school day. Therapy sessions are typically an hour a week. Services can cover a wide variety of problems, from diagnosed disorders (such as ADHD, depression, or anxiety) to temporary or situational problems (such as bullying, separation anxiety, divorce/grief counseling, or acting out in class). Services are provided by master’s level clinicians.
Both commercial insurance and medical assistance will be accepted as forms of payment. Co-pays may exist.
